We As One proudly participated as a partner in the Erasmus+ "Cultural Compass: Navigating Diversity Through Communication" Mobility of Youth Workers project (Project No: 2024-1-ES02-KA153-YOU-000215870), coordinated by KUFF Refugees and Minorities Solidarity Association and implemented in Madrid/Alcobendas, Spain, between 29 October and 5 November 2024. The mobility brought together youth workers from Spain, Turkey, Poland, Latvia, and Romania to strengthen intercultural communication, promote global citizenship, and exchange innovative non-formal education practices that foster inclusion, mutual understanding, and international cooperation.
Throughout the programme, participants explored the foundations of intercultural communication by examining concepts such as culture, multiculturalism, interculturality, acculturation, and global citizenship. Through seminars, presentations, interactive discussions, and concept-based learning methods, they gained a deeper understanding of how cultural diversity influences communication and how Erasmus+ contributes to overcoming prejudice while promoting dialogue, tolerance, and active European citizenship. Personal experiences shared by participants further demonstrated the long-term value of international mobility in both professional and personal development.
Practical workshops and collaborative activities transformed theoretical knowledge into real-life learning experiences. Participants analysed stereotypes, assumptions, and communication barriers through forums, brainstorming sessions, role-playing, and group discussions, while also exploring verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, persuasive speaking, and culturally sensitive interaction. Creative sessions highlighting symbols, greetings, traditions, language, cuisine, and other cultural expressions from participating countries encouraged meaningful dialogue, strengthened teamwork, and helped participants appreciate Europe's cultural richness from multiple perspectives.
Quality assurance and continuous reflection remained central throughout the mobility. Project monitoring meetings, structured feedback sessions, and evaluation activities enabled participants and facilitators to assess learning outcomes, review the effectiveness of activities, and identify opportunities for further improvement. These processes encouraged critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and active participation while ensuring that the project responded to participants' needs and maximised its educational impact.
By combining theoretical learning, practical communication exercises, intercultural exchange, and continuous evaluation, the project equipped youth workers with valuable competences to create more inclusive and culturally responsive learning environments. As a proud partner of this Erasmus+ initiative, We As One strengthened its commitment to promoting diversity, intercultural dialogue, and international cooperation, while bringing home innovative methods and experiences that will continue to benefit young people and local communities through future youth work activities.
